Victory Doh, the Cameroonian International Urban Gospel artist based in Canada recently launched her career with the visuals of her hit single titled – WHITER THAN SNOW. This piece she says is an inspirational song relating to anyone asking for God’s Mercy and surrendering to God for direction in life. The song which was released on 05/04/2020 on her YouTube channel has consoled many and touched several souls.
“In an effort to contribute to the gospel music ecosystem, I am committed to consistently drive and share my inspiration through my music, while providing viewers with an experience that is soothing to the spirit”. Doh said while adding that “My mission is to bring a Unique Vibe to gospel music that is appealing to everyone and the youths in particular. Many youths think gospel music is boring. I want to serve as an inspiration for youths to find pleasure in glorifying God”.
We had the chance to engage the talented Gospel artist in an interview and came up with the following interested facts you didn’t know. Read the interview carefully and make you opinion count in the comment section.
- Tell us about yourself.
My name is Victory Doh, I am 21yrs Old, Last born in a family of 6 (2 elder brothers and 3 elder sisters). I went to PSS Mankon for secondary school and CPC Bali for high school. I later moved to Buea, where I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing at BIAKA’S University.
Friends call me Vicky.
- What inspired you start a music career and when did you engage fully into it?
Actually, I have always had a passion for Gospel music and I noticed modern-day gospel music is scarce in Cameroon (which I enjoyed most). So, I decided to get into urban gospel music which is the type of music most of today’s generation enjoys listening to. I started Urban Gospel Music since 2015, but I decided to engage professionally in 2019.
- Please explain your creative process
Basically, there is nothing special about my creative process. I get inspired when I am happy, or even when I am sad. Also, inspiration could come when I observe things and situations happening around me. In fact, I would say it’s just a God-given talent.
- Is there a hidden meaning in any of your art or works?
My music has no hidden meaning or message. The message in my music is transmitted through a clear, simple and easy-to-understand format. I always “keep it simple”.
- How many projects have you released so far (Mention dates)
As of now, WHITER THAN SNOW is my first official release (05/04/2020).
- Do you collaborate with others? What is the process?
Yes, I am open to collaboration. I believe Unity is strength. When there is teamwork, transparency, and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved. Anyone who is interested in a collabo should hit me on any of my social media channels or email and we will take it up from there.
- Have you ever dealt with anxiety? If yes, tell us about it
Like so many people out there, I have moments when I have to deal with anxiety. I just take some time to myself and pray, get more rest, Exercise more often and do whatever makes me happy.
- What are you current projects?
I have a lot of projects cooking right now. But just FYI (For your Information), another exciting single will be dropping soon. So, begin to ANTICIPATE.
- What would you like to achieve, to consider as your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement would be for me to inspire and impact a lot of people’s lives through my music. I would also like to serve as a reference when it comes to urban gospel music. This will give me fulfillment.
- What are the obstacles you have encountered and how have you managed to solve them and keep pushing?
I have faced so many obstacles. The main ones have been discouragement and financial difficulties. When I started music in 2015, I encountered people who were not fair towards judging my abilities. I was faced with several discouragements.
And honestly, it began to almost take the better part of me. But as a self-motivated person, I continuously worked on myself and focused on surrounding myself with “POSITIVE ENERGY”.
Regarding the financial aspect, when I started music in 2015, I was still in the university. I had to rely on my family for financial assistance. So, I could not fully provide the necessities to engage in music professionally.
However, I am independent now and I have a regular job that supports my music carrier financially.
- How do you get funds to finance your projects and operations?
All of my projects and operations are self-funded.
- What is your current located?
I am currently located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada
- Who do you look up to in your field?
I have a lot of role models, to name a few: Tasha Cobbs, Jeannine Zoe, Ada.
- Do you make a living solely off your music? Or do you have side hustles?
As of now, I don’t make a living through my music. I have a regular job and other side hustles. However, I hope and pray God will bless my carrier to the point I will be able to live solely through my music.
- Are you in a relationship? If yes, how do you manage it alongside your music career?
Yes, I am in a relationship. It has been easy managing my relationship alongside my music career because my partner shares my vision. He has been very encouraging.
- If you can have your fans remember one thing about you, what would it be?
I would like to be remembered as the gospel artist that revolutionized and re-shaped consumption of Urban Gospel Music in Cameroon.
- What is the quote you live by?
My favorite quote “Godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and we can take nothing out of it”. I live my everyday life with this quote in my subconscious mind.
- Where do you see yourself five years from now?
In 5 years, I should have had a platform with huge and inspiring music content. Also, I would like to serve my audience in other aspects of Entertainment not limited to music.
- What do you use your free time for? Any hobbies?
I am a gym “freak”. I love working out. I also love swimming, cooking, and spending time with my loved ones.
- What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
You can be whatever you want to be. And remember! Hard work beats talent where talent does not work hard. So, work hard. Be Consistent. Be Patient.
And Above All, Pray to God to crown your hard work with success. Because God has the Final Say.
